One of the world’s most popular cities to visit, together with New York City, Paris and Tokyo, London holds a presence of excellence for so many different reasons – it is difficult not to find something for everyone.

So let try and put a finger on just what it is that the City of London does to invite all manner of strangers from near and far, making them feel at home and welcome.

The UK has been home to some of the greatest bands in the world, including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Coldplay and The Who, and it continues to be at the forefront of the music scene. London has even been held responsible for creating some of its own music genres. Styles such as Dubstep, Garage, Grime and Bassline largely began in London basement clubs and have become synonymous with the English and London music scene. However, at the other end of the spectrum, London is home to the incredible Royal Albert Hall, best known for hosting The Proms annually since 1941.

Each year, there are more than 17,000 music performances across London’s 300+ venues, including The O2 arena – the world’s most popular music venue for the last five years running!

Museums and Galleries

Three of the top ten museums and galleries across the world are in London. With a total of 857 art galleries, London certainly won’t run out of offerings for a keen eye. Together with stationary pieces of art and sculptures, London is also a hotspot for one-off exhibitions, particularly at Somerset House (home to London Fashion Week).

The Victoria and Albert museum has put on a series of interesting exhibitions including ‘David Bowie is’ and ‘Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty’. They cover a variety of interesting and obscure topics, bringing visitors from around the world through the doors.

Food and Drink

There is something fascinating about watching a skilled barman throw your cocktail about and then – as if by magic – presenting to you a piece of drinkable art! Well, if this is something that sounds like an ideal evening to you, then London certainly won’t disappoint. From ‘speakeasy’ style bars to minimalist and modern bars that beg the question, where is everything? London boasts a fantastic array of both cocktail and espresso bars.

Some of the finest hotels in the world are based in the capital. Simply walking past some of these is a spectacle in itself, let alone eating at them. The likes of The Savoy, The Ritz and Claridge’s should certainly make a mark on your bucket list.

So if we have tipped the scales in favour of London, be sure to see the city with the guidance of an expert, so you can be sure not to miss a single ‘best bit’.
